Announcement of vocational training cooperation project between Australia and Vietnam until 2025

The project, worth up to AU$13.8 million (approximately VND 246 billion), starts in 2021 and will expand the model of linking logistics businesses with vocational education in Vietnam for more than 4 years.

On the morning of April 14, 2022, the Australian Embassy in Vietnam and the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) officially announced the next phase of vocational education support in Viet Nam.

Over the past four years, the Vietnam - Australia human resource development cooperation program Aus4Skills has promoted the connection of logistics businesses with vocational education in Vietnam, helping to ensure that graduates' skills meet the requirements. of employers in the logistics industry.

Appreciating the cooperation program between Vietnam and Australia, Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Le Tan Dung said: "I am confident that with Australia's experience and the results achieved in the cooperation relationship over the past time, the project will effectively contribute to the achievement of the goal of upskilling the workforce – a key factor for Vietnam to achieve its ambitious goal of becoming a middle-income country by 2045 .

At the same time, this project will also contribute to promoting extensive cooperation between the two governments in the field of vocational education and human resource development. In addition, the project is particularly important in the context that the vocational education system in general and the logistics industry in particular in Vietnam are being heavily influenced by the Covid-19 pandemic, the increasing requirements of the life 4th industrial revolution".

Ms. Bridget Collier, representative of the Australian Embassy in Vietnam shared at the project announcement ceremony: "Australia continues to commit to support Vietnam in its next stage of development, including technical consolidation. A skilled workforce will help ensure that Vietnam's industries remain competitive, which is crucial for Vietnam's economic growth and post-coronavirus recovery. We are happy to share with you, through the Aus4Skills program, our experiences in building a dynamic, business-led vocational education system."

Since 2017, more than 5,300 students from several vocational education institutions have benefited from the Aus4Skill program through improved teaching quality.

Enrollment rates for logistics-related courses at these vocational education institutions have increased eightfold and graduates are very welcome by employers as they can work immediately.

The project is worth up to AU$13.8 million (equivalent to about VND 246 billion), starting in 2021 and will successfully expand the aforementioned model of engagement for more than 4 years (2021-2025).

The project is designed to help Vietnam upskill its workforce - an essential element for Vietnam to achieve its ambitious goal of becoming a high-income country by 2045. .

This support activity focuses on the logistics industry - an industry prioritized for development by Vietnam. By 2025, this industry is expected to contribute between 8%-10% of the total national income. This is also an industry in which Australia has a lot of experience.

Australia's support through the Aus4Skills program will focus on cooperation with the General Department of Vocational Education, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, the Vietnam Federation of Trade and Industry, vocational education institutions and partner businesses.

The activities of the Project will create professional development opportunities for teachers, managers, and leaders of vocational education, build a framework to ensure the quality of training and programs in accordance with the needs of enterprises, with the support and close connection of the business.

In addition, the Project will also continue to create opportunities for women and people with disabilities to access vocational education and jobs in the logistics industry because this industry is considered a profession for men, although women have sufficient skills and capacity.

Also at the project announcement ceremony, the cooperation parties also held a workshop on "Applying the vocational education model under the guidance of logistics enterprises - Orientation for Vietnam".
