On the afternoon of March 15, in Hanoi, the General Directorate of Vocational Education and Training (DVET) held the 12th National Vocational Skills Competition Innovation Conference in the new context and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is expected that the 12th National Vocational Skills Competition in 2021 will take place from September 15, 2021 to October 4, 2021. Candidates are students of VET institutions and workers from 15 to 60 years old.

DVET’s Director General Truong Anh Dung spoke at the Conference

Mr. Nguyen Chi Truong, Director of the Department of Vocational Skills/DVET said that according to the plan, the 12th National Vocational Skills Competition is expected to take place from September 15 to October 4, 2021 – The day of Vietnamese Labor Skills. To prepare for the competition, there will be organized conferences and technical conferences taking place in April and May 2021.

Before that, in 2020, despite being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the 11th National Vocational Skills Competition was still organized and succeeded successfully, contributing to spreading vocational qualifications and skills in the society.

However, according to the increasing demand of the society; requirements and tasks set out by the Prime Minister in Directive No. 24 / CT-TTg dated May 28, 2020 on promoting the development of skilled human resources, contributing to improving labor productivity and increasing national competition capacity in the new situation; postponement,  change of international skills competitions from odd year to even year (ASEAN and World Skills), from even year to odd year (ASEAN), thus, the 12th National Vocational Competition 2021 must be renewed.

This year's National Vocational Skills competition has many important new features. The first new feature is about the organization time: instead of being held in an even year like the previous one, the competition will be taken place in an odd year (in 2021) to match the time to prepare and take the national skills competition. The second new feature is that the audience will be expanded for the 2021 competition. Besides students of VET institutions, there will be the participation of employees from 15 to 60 years old who are working in enterprises, corporations and incorporations.

This is also the first year responding to the Vietnam Labor Skills Day, aiming to double goals: promoting the movement of training vocational skills for all people in the age force as prescribed by Law; directly preparing the Vietnamese delegation to participate in the 2022 ASEAN Skills Competition, the 46th World Skills competition in 2022 in Shanghai, China.
