Meeting between Director General Truong Anh Dung and ILO Office in Vietnam

On February 18, 2021, in Hanoi, Director General of DVET Truong Anh Dung had a meeting with Ms. Valentina Barcucci - Deputy Chief Representative of ILO Office in Vietnam. Attending the meeting were leaders of the Department of Organization and Personnel, Department of Vocational Skills, Department of Planning - Finance and DVET’s Office.

At the meeting, Director General Truong Anh Dung expressed his appreciation for the good relationship as well as practical cooperation activities between the ILO office in Vietnam and DVET in Vocational Education and Training sector. In the past time, in VET sector, especially in the implementation of the project "Applying the G20 Training Strategy" and building a strategy to develop vocational skills in the agricultural sector.

As shared with Ms. Valentina Barcucci, Director General said that on February 5, 2021, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 176 / QD-TTg on the program to support development of the labor market until 2030; in which, focusing on skills for workers in the working process, vocational skills before going to work for new graduates; certification system of occupations and occupational skills according to international standards; career guidance for students and support workers to participate in labor markets in the country and abroad.

In the year 2021, DVET will focus and prioritize the implementation of a number of contents and tasks related to the development of VET strategy for the period of 2021-2030; enrollment and training in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic; capacity building for the managerial staffs at DVET and VET institutions; building a communication strategy for the period of 2021-2025; design a career education communication ecosystem and organize a series of events to spread the value of VET, of skills, of the VET system to enterprises and to each person. In 2021, continuing to organize vocational skill competition for employees, pupils and students; organize a vocational skill week - in response to the annual Vietnam Labor Skills Day (October 4).

The representative of ILO, Ms. Valentina Barcucci also expressed her gratitude and was very touched by the sincere welcome from the DVET to her and her colleagues from ILO as the first delegation of international organization visiting and working with the General Department on the occasion of the early spring of Lunar New Year 2021. At the same time, she expressed her agreement with the contents shared by the Director General and said that those are also the contents that the ILO is interested in and wants to mention in the meeting. In which, Ms. Valentina emphasized the importance of labor market development; training and improving skills for informal workers in Vietnam, especially in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. The ILO is ready to support resources; experts; materials, skills development programs, career guidance and post-training job creation.

 

Overview of meeting

The two sides mutually agreed that after the meeting, there will be a summary of meeting to unify the discussed contents, as a basis for building a cooperation plan between DVET and the ILO office in Vietnam in 2021 and for the next phase.
