Can Tho: Vocational training for 40,000 laborers

(Vietnam News Agency) It is estimated that by the end of 2015, Can Tho will enroll and provide vocational training for 40,000 people, reaching 100%, and raise level of laborers who undertake vocational training compared to total number of laborers in the market to 50.76%. That is a statement given by Deputy Director of Department of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs Chau Hong Thai during conclusion conference of Can Tho city 2015, which is organized by City People’s Committee in coordination with Department of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs on 18/11.

In order to achieve abovementioned objectives, mr. Chau Hong Thai said, Department of Labours – Invalids and Social Affairs will act as a bridge to closely cooperate with associated Departments, Sectors to focus on state propaganda, state management of vocational training, provide training to improve the quality of teachers. Apart from that, The Department will also cooperate with functional units to innovate the contents, programs and methods of vocational education, upgrade infrastructure and facilities for vocational training.
The Department will cooperate with City Propaganda Committee, communication agencies, vocational education institutions, association-level units, unions to increase communication of state policies and guideline on vocational training; consult and propagate the target group of vocational training, provide information of addresses of vocational training centers, typical employment related model…via enrollment sessions in high schools, job exchanges. Additionally, cooperate with wards, communes, towns, hamlets to render direct consulting and enrollment related to vocational training for rural laborers.
Focus is also placed on state management; regularly inspect, supervise conditions to ensure operation of vocational education institutions in the city; revoke certificates of registration issued to vocational training institutions that are not eligible in terms of number of teachers, theory classrooms, practice workshops, vocational training equipments…
Aside from that, the departments, sectors will focus on improving the quality of teachers, innovating the contents, programs and methods of vocational training. The units facilitate teachers’ participation in training courses such as university training, training courses on pedagogical skills in vocational training, training courses on teaching skills, training courses on computer literacy, foreign languages…Concurrently, direct vocational training schools to innovate training programs in line with the demand of labor market; provide arrangement for learners to get practical experiences in enterprises.
Deputy Chairman of City People’s Committee Le Van Tam suggests Department of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs to enhance social investments for the upgrade of facilities, equipments in support of vocational training. Moreover, complete the information system of labor market; undertake investigation of supply – demand of labor market, organize job exchange sessions in good manner, increase linkage between vocational training institutions and enterprises, encourage vocational training institutions to establish an enterprises-relation division get an understanding of demand for labor from enterprises through vocational trainings.
According to Deparment of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs, up to 11/2015, vocational training institutions in the city have recruited and provided vocational trainings for over 37,600 people. In which, vocational colleges have 1,400 people, vocational schools have nearly 1,600, vocational schools of lower level have 18,500 people and continuous vocational training has 16,000 people.
