Strengthening Vietnam-Korea linkage and cooperation in TVET

In the morning of June 30, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam in cooperation with the Korean Embassy in Vietnam held the Meeting themed "Meeting with Korea 2020" with the aim of socio-economic recovery and development in a normal status after COVID-19. Attending the meeting includes Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son; Korean Ambassador Park Noh-wan; President of Korea Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) in Southeast Asia and Oceania, Director General of KOTRA Hanoi Kim Ki Joon; President of the Korean Business Association (KORCHAM) in Vietnam Kim Han-Yong and representatives of many Korean businesses, nearly 1,000 participants, both national and international delegates.



 Speaking at the Conference, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son emphasized that economic cooperation is always an important pillar and a bright spot in Vietnam-Korea relations. South Korea is currently the largest investor of Vietnam with a total accumulated capital of nearly $70 billion, with more than 8,000 projects creating jobs for about 700,000 workers in many localities in the country, contributing about 30% of the total export value of Vietnam. Deputy Minister Bui Thanh Son also stated that Covid-19 pandemic is making big changes and probably going to continue complicatedly, Vietnam and South Korea, however, are considered typical of the world in the field of epidemic prevention. Up to now, the two countries are entering the stage of economic recovery and more than ever need to unite to support each other. Therefore, this is a valuable opportunity for leaders of all Korean representative agencies and the Korean business community in Vietnam to talk with leaders and representatives of nearly 50 Vietnamese provinces/cities.

  Mr. Truong Anh Dung - Director General of DVET gave a speech on Vietnam-Korea cooperation in Technical Vocational Education and Training and skills development at the 2nd Session of the Meeting with the topic: "Enhancing local-level cooperation and relations between Vietnam and Korea after the Covid-19 pandemic".

     Mr. Dung emphasized that Korea is a country with leading education in Asia. Along with the period of economic renovation and development, from a poor country, Korea has become a prosperous nation. Throughout the development stages, Korea has emphasized on skilled labor and is now one of the successful countries in developing the vocational training system, which always are the top countries in Worlskills International Competition. On average, 3 million people are assessed their skills annually.

Mr. Truong Anh Dung shared, with the support and cooperation of Korea, development partners and national efforts, Vietnam has had a lot of success in developing human resources in general and skilled labour in particular. Human resource development has also been identified as one of three strategic breakthroughs in socio-economic development, especially, recently, on May 28, 2020, the Prime Minister issued the Directive No. 24/CT-TTg on promoting the development of skilled labor force, contributing to improving labor productivity and increasing national competitiveness in the new situation .... The successes in cooperation in vocational training development between Vietnam and South Korea can be listed as: cooperation to develop 12 Vietnamese-Korean vocational schools in localities, including very successful models such as Vietnamese-Korean College in Nghe An, Bac Giang, Dak Lak; technical support consulting system development, training teachers and management staff, developing a system of vocational skills assessment ...

In the coming time, Mr. Truong Anh Dung suggested that the two sides will enhance cooperation in the spirit of practicality and efficiency at the levels of government, localities, businesses, training institutions ... through activities. such as promoting policy cooperation; promoting cooperation and signing cooperation agreements between Vietnamese vocational education institutions and Korean enterprises in Vietnam in the field of vocational education, training under the needs of  Korean enterprises; strengthening cooperation and training linkage between Vietnamese and Korean vocational education institutions to receive transferred programs, curriculum, materials, teaching and learning methods for mutual recognition in some subjects, some skills.
 On this occasion, Mr. Dung also sent thanks to Korean partners who have always accompanied and supported DVET to successfully implement the cooperation programs and activities in recent years.
