Contining to promote cooperation with Australia on vocational education and training

On the morning of May 21, 2020, in Hanoi, Directorate of Vocational Education and Training (DVET) held an online meeting with the Australian Embassy in Hanoi on the content of cooperation between the two countries in the field of vocational education and training in the coming time. 



Attending the meeting were Mr. Truong Anh Dung, Deputy General Director of DVET, leaders of Departments, Units: Department of Occupational Skilss, DVET. On the side of the Australian Embassy in Hanoi was Ms. Robyn Mudie, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam; Ms. Joanna Wood, Education Counsellor Australia Goverment and some officials from the Australian Embassy in Hanoi.

The objective of the meeting was to discuss about common activities and priorities in the cooperation between the two governments on vocational education and training. The Vietnamese side has proposed a number of cooperative activities in the coming time, including: Training and fostering capacity building for teachers and vocational education and training managers; continue the process of transferring program sets, pilot training and scaling up transfer programs from Australia; study the mechanism of attracting businesses into vocational education and training, following the Australian model; Enhancing training cooperation between vocational education and training institutions of the two countries; promote communication activities to enhance the image of the position of Vietnamese vocational education; strengthen exchanges of students, vocational educators between the two countries; allow graduates of vocational education and training institutions in Vietnam to work in Australia for a short term; increase recognition of qualifications and skills between the two countries' labor; Inspection and training, quality assurance, compilation of guidance materials for inspectors and organization of practical experience learning activities in Australia; Coordinating the development of training curricula, syllabuses, conducting pilot training and re-training for employees at enterprises; support the development of policy frameworks, guidance for distance education training, online training and other forms of regular training, etc.

At the meeting, under the authorization of the Minister of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs, Deputy Director General Truong Anh Dung presented campaign medal “For the cause of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs” to Mrs. Joanna Wood, Education Counsellor Australian Embassy in Hanoi to acknowledge her contributions to the development of vocational education and training in Vietnam as well as to promote cooperation between the two countries on vocational education and training.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Director General Truong Anh Dung shared some experiences of the Vietnamese Government's response to the COVID-19 epidemic, in which the international community highly appreciated the efforts of the Vietnamese Government. in combating and limiting the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, the Government is offering a series of solutions to revive the economy after the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to overcome difficulties in production, business activities and ensure social security, the Government of Vietnam has issued and brought to life many really effective policies, such as the VND 62,000 billion support package. , a credit support package exclusively for businesses worth 285,000 billion. In the field of vocational education, the support package of about VND 5,000 billion will be supported for vocational education in the near future. So vocational education we are facing many difficulties in the future.

Regarding Vietnam's vocational education and training development strategy for the 2021-2030 period, the Deputy Director General expressed his thanks and appreciation for Australia's interest in the strategy development process. Currently, the strategy drafting team is actively developing the draft version, which will be submitted to Australia for comments in the near future. We hope that the Australian Government will support and share experiences in developing and implementing Australia's vocational education development strategy, which will bring practical benefits to Vietnam in the process of building a strategy career development strategy for the period 2021-2030.
