Korea is very interested in developing vocational skills for young people through vocational training programs for high school students and organizing skills tests. High school students can learn vocational skills for free at vocational training institutions with funding provided by the State. On the skills competition, Korea is the country with many years ranked first in the whole group in the number of medals in the world skills competition. This achievement is mainly due to the special interest of the Korean Government in national skill examination, world skills competition, active and responsible participation of Korean big enterprises from the selection process to train candidates to participate in the skills exams. Samsung Group is an enterprise that has recruited and trained many Korean contestants to win many medals in the world skills competitions. For the world skills competition, Samsung Group's Training Center is organizing training courses for candidates to attend: Mechatronics, CAD Mechanical Engineering Design, Information Network Cable Installation, Prize software solutions for information technology, CNC milling, CNC turning, etc., including 03 Vietnamese candidates including 02 Mechatronics contestants (Nguyen Van Hung and Nguyen Van Quan, students of Hanoi Mechanical and Electrical College) and 01 participant in CAD mechanical engineering design (Vu Trong Dat, student of Hanoi University of Industry).
Cooperation between the DVET and HRD Korea on the skills competetion started in 2004 through the Korean support to train Vietnamese candidates and experts to attend ASEAN Skills Competition and World Skills Competition has helped Vietnam achieve many high achievements in these exams. In 2019, HRD Korea funded all training costs in Korea for Vietnamese candidates and professionals to attend the World Skills Competition for 4 occupations: Sheet metal processing, Welding, Molds and Plastic mold.
